Earn-a-Bike Program.

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”27px”][vc_column_text]Our Earn-a-Bike program aims to provide a safe working bicycle to those who cannot afford to purchase a new bike, and to give participants the skills they need to maintain the bike is safe condition.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”27px”][vc_column_text]Earn-a-Bike participants learn how to fix bicycles through volunteering their time to work on community bikes and by learning from the Bike Kitchen mechanics.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”27px”][vc_column_text]HOW DOES IT WORK?[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”27px”][vc_column_text]After orientation with a Bike Kitchen mechanic, Earn-a-Bike participants can select a used bicycle from our donations to fix and/or re-build for themselves.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”27px”][vc_column_text]Participants can work on their own bike during open shop hours after volunteering for 30 minutes each time. This volunteer time can include working on other bicycles or completing tasks to keep the shop running smoothly.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”27px”][vc_column_text]Earn-a-Bike participants must attend open shop at least once per week to work on their project in order to keep that bicycle.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”27px”][vc_column_text]Community members who may be seeking to purchase a bicycle and are able to afford one may purchase one of our refurbished bicycles. This helps us keep our programs, including Earn-a-Bike, running so that other community members can access bikes.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”27px”][vc_column_text]Earn-a-Bike participants become invested in the care and maintenance of a bicycle that they built themselves and gain a sense of accomplishment and empowerment in having the skills to be independent.[/vc_column_text][/qode_elements_holder_item][/qode_elements_holder][/vc_column][/vc_row]
