What is it?

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”13px”][vc_column_text]The Bike Kitchen is a non-profit social enterprise created to provide a welcoming safe space for the community to learn how to maintain, repair, and build their own bicycles. Youth under 16 are welcome to participate when accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.

WHAT WE DO

  • Accept donated bikes of all shapes and sizes
  • Refurbish donated bicycles
  • Provide cycle safety education for school groups, community groups, and individuals
  • Provide bike repair education through structured classes and weekly shop hours.
  • Provide use of tools and work stations
  • Provide meaningful volunteer opportunities for youth and adults

WHAT WE DO NOT DO

  • Purchase used bikes
  • Trade bikes
  • Lend tools off-site
  • Sell unsafe bikes

To donate a used bike, contact Oliver at info@bikewindsoressex.com[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”13px”][vc_column_text]Our Earn-a-Bike program is providing opportunities for low-income youth and New Canadians to refurbish a donated bike, which becomes their own once it is in safe working condition.

Through Earn-a-Bike, youth become invested in the care and maintenance of a bicycle that they built themselves, and gain a sense of accomplishment and empowerment in having the skills to be independent.[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”13px”][/qode_elements_holder_item][qode_elements_holder_item background_image=”14427″ item_padding=”0 0% 0 61px” vertical_alignment=”bottom” advanced_animations=”no”][vc_empty_space height=”50px”][vc_column_text]

The Bike Kitchen is gratefully accepting donations of bicycles for refurbishing and eventual return to the community.

Community Impact

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”13px”][vc_column_text]The Bike Kitchen aims to teach people how to repair bicycles and to put safe working bicycles back into the community at an affordable cost. We engage, educate, and empower individuals by providing the tools and the knowledge for them to access affordable transportation via recycled and refurbished bicycles.

We promote a positive culture of wrenching, environmental responsibility, and volunteering in which all members of our community will treat each other with dignity and respect.

All profits raised are used to fund our programming and outreach in the community.[/vc_column_text][/qode_elements_holder_item][qode_elements_holder_item background_color=”#419cd6″ background_image=”13463″ item_padding=”15% 14% 15% 18%” vertical_alignment=”middle” advanced_animations=”no”][vc_column_text]
